Chay Yan Street: 1937 housing records, flat mix and Tiong Bahru connections

HDB’s property inventory records 82 homes in two residential blocks on Chay Yan Street, with both blocks completed in 1937. These are the addresses represented in Property.co’s street guide checked on 19 October 2026, rather than a count of every kind of property along the road. Completion year describes the recorded buildings; the tenure, lease and sale conditions of a particular home need their own address-specific checks.

The inventory assigns 28 homes to the two-room sold category, 30 to three-room and 24 to four-room. Those figures add up to the 82 recorded homes. Room categories describe the source’s housing classification, not a substitute for an advertised floor area or a measured plan. Compare the actual arrangement of rooms, windows and circulation space when considering a home in these older blocks.

Neither Chay Yan Street nor its two recorded blocks has a resale entry in the HDB registration dataset during the complete October 2025–September 2026 window. There is therefore no street median or price range to report from that dataset. This says nothing conclusive about transactions outside the HDB resale series, and should not be read as evidence that no property changed hands. Incomplete October 2026 records are excluded.

Blocks 79 and 80 each contain 41 homes and are each recorded as five storeys high. Their postal codes are 160079 and 160080 respectively. This compact inventory makes the full address particularly useful when comparing listings: check the correct block, level, floor plan and access arrangements instead of treating the street name as a complete description of the property.

Property.co identifies Tiong Bahru MRT, EW17 on the East–West Line, at about 544 metres from the nearest recorded residential block, and Havelock, TE16 on the Thomson–East Coast Line, at about 677 metres. These are straight-line reference distances and may begin at different blocks. They are not walking times or a promise about the route to a station entrance; check crossings and the actual journey from the selected address.

Zhangde Primary School’s current official contact page confirms its address as 51 Jalan Membina. Property.co places it about 570 metres from the nearest residential block in a straight line. That provides a location to investigate when planning daily routines, but it does not establish a particular home’s official registration-distance band, priority or admission eligibility.

Tiong Bahru Park offers a separate neighbourhood recreation option along Tiong Bahru Road and Lower Delta Road. NParks identifies a playground with a tilting train and lists the park as wheelchair accessible and elderly friendly. Plan the practical route and relevant entrance from the actual home; these park details do not establish access conditions within either residential block.

Check the street’s live listing box for homes on Chay Yan Street, or browse Property.co’s Bukit Merah homes for sale and rent. Compare each listing’s asking price, floor area, layout and tenure details with the specific address and the limits of the historical records described here.
